Founded in 1927, David Gottlieb & Co started in the early 30ies with their Baffle Ball, a wooden board game, almost identical as the Ballyhoo (see Bally). This was no coincidence, because one of Gottliebs distributers, Raymond Maloney had a tremendeous success with with these games, that his supply dried out after 50.000 units sold. Frustated he founded his own company : Bally Manufacturing. But back to Gottliebs : Besides a number of Arcade Games, Gottlieb produced numerous single-and 2-4 player wood rail pinballs, nowadays very hard to find and at that time far advanced in design and technology.
Gottlieb was synonyme for Pinball, especially after the launch of Humpty Dumpty, the first pinball with electronic flippers which left the factory in Chicago in 1947.
In the following years, Gottlieb produced many successfull games such the Hounted House and Black Hole until Premier Technology in 1984 redesigned the Machine, but realised years later, that demand for pinballs ceased. Pam Anderson on Barb Wire said Goodbye Gottlieb in summer 1996.
